Do you think food assistance is only for people without a home? You are wrong. Every month we help hundreds of families with children, pensioners, students and single parents. If you are in a difficult financial situation, there is nothing to be ashamed of.
Anyone can end up in a hard place
Losing a job, illness, divorce, unexpected expenses, or simply one income in the family not covering all the costs. At times like these food assistance can be an important bridge across a difficult period.
Who is food assistance for?
- 40 % families with children – families where one income does not cover rent, energy and decent food.
- 25 % pensioners – a minimum pension and the cost of medicines force many older people to choose between health and food.
- 15 % single parents – after a divorce or separation they manage rent, energy and feeding the children alone.
- 10 % students – young people paying for their studies and housing themselves.
- 10 % others – people after job loss, in illness, in debt enforcement or another temporary crisis.
You do not have to be homeless to receive help. Asking for help is not weakness, it is a solution. And there is nothing to be ashamed of.
Step 1: Visit the labour office or the social department
The first step leads to the Czech labour office or to the social department of your municipal district or council. Bring the identity cards of all adult members of the household, proof of income for the last three months, proof of residence and the children's birth certificates.
Step 2: Get a recommendation
A social worker will carry out a social assessment with you and issue a recommendation for food assistance. It is a routine process in which the household's financial situation is assessed.
Step 3: Come to a distribution point
Bring an identity card for your first visit. You will receive a parcel and our staff will explain what recommendation you will need in order to receive food regularly. For people who cannot come themselves, we deliver food assistance once a week to their home.
